The Presenters

Jessica Beauchamp, LCSW, SAS, CSOTS has 15+ years of experience in the human services field. She earned her graduate degree from Michigan State University. Jes worked for county agencies where she provided crisis intervention services. She also managed Comprehensive Community Support (CCS), Community Support Teams (CST), and Children's Long Term Services (CLTS) programs. In 2016, she opened her own private mental health practice in Northeast WI. She specializes in farmer wellness, substance abuse/addiction, family counseling, couples counseling, and mood disorders. Jes offers unique services in that a majority of the treatment takes place in the community, nature, or the client's home. She consults with other practitioners and agencies in the state and has presented on topics including assessing and managing suicide risk and crisis planning.

Professor Jess Bowers joined the Sociology and Social Work Department at UWSP in 2014. In addition to teaching, she coordinates the social work field education program.  Jess received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point in 1998 and a masters in social work from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh in 2006. She obtained her pupil services license for school social work in 2014. Jess has previous practice experience in juvenile justice, family violence, and child welfare. The bulk of her practice experience has been in central Wisconsin.

Susan Buss, LCSW, President, Big Sky Consulting Inc., Susan has 35 years of professional experience in Social Work, both in agencies and her private practice in the near-west suburbs of Chicago. She is a graduate of The University of Chicago and Valparaiso University. She works with adults and adolescents, specializing in trauma, LGBTQIA, dating and relationships, and grief/loss. She has taught at the University level, and facilitated workshops for 25 years, including NASW since 2015. In addition to Psychotherapy, Susan provides Meditation, Hypnotherapy and Reiki.

Katie Childs, APSW, MPH, is the PrEP Navigator at UW Health in Madison, Wisconsin. Katie is a licensed social worker and certified sexuality educator. She liaises with both patients and healthcare partners throughout the state to ensure quality, timely, equitable care for HIV prevention.

Gabriela Diéguez Hurtado, MSW, LCSW earned her Master's in Social Work at UW-Milwaukee. She has worked as a bilingual therapist for sixteen years at Sixteenth Street Community Health Centers providing services to an inner-city population in Milwaukee. She has also collaborated in two research projects with Latinos, one with UW- Milwaukee on Behavioral Activation and the other with Marquette University on Attention Deficit Disorders. Gabriela spends her free time as a volunteer with Common Ground doing community organizing in Milwaukee's Southside.

Katherine Drechsler received her DSW from George Williams College of Aurora University in 2017. She received her MSW from the University of Milwaukee in 2000. She is a licensed clinical social worker with a specialty authorization in substance abuse and a licensed school social worker in Wisconsin. Katherine has over twenty-six years of social work experience in the areas of juvenile justice, child welfare, and community mental health and addictions. Currently, Katherine is the Field Coordinator and an Assistant Professor for the Social Work Program at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.

Dr. Rebecca J. Hnilica is an Assistant Project Director at the Behavioral Health Research Center at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. She earned her MSSW and PhD in Social Work from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Rebecca is a licensed master social worker (LMSW) and a licensed school social worker (LSSW). Her research includes assessing health and wellness interventions in K-12 public schools that account for the social determinants of health.

Dr. Andrea Joseph-McCatty is an assistant professor at the University of Tennessee Knoxville – College of Social Work. She graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a PhD in social work where she studied the use of restorative practices to address racially disproportional school suspensions. Prior to this, she worked for the Anti-Defamation League designing and facilitating anti-bias and anti-bullying programs for students and educators in K-12 schools and university settings. During her doctoral studies, Dr. Joseph-McCatty served as a Fulbright Postgraduate at University College of London – Institute of Education. As a Fulbright Postgraduate, she earned an MA in Social Justice and Education studying racially disproportional school exclusions in England. Currently, as a faculty member, Dr. Joseph-McCatty conducts research on interventions to address racially disproportional school suspensions and examines the relationship between student trauma and school discipline. As such, Dr. Joseph-McCatty is especially interested in the creation of inclusive schools and the ways educators, school social workers and staff can use cultural humility, anti-racist practices and trauma-informed care to support inclusive school environments.

Jayne Krull: As a Director in the Division of Ag Development, Jayne leads the Farm Center at DATCP (Wisconsin Dept. of Agriculture, Trade & Consumer Protection), a team of specialists who provide support for farmers across the state including financial counseling, mediation and farm transition assistance. She also oversees staff in marketing and outreach programs including the Something Special from Wisconsin™, Alice in Dairyland, county and district fairs; agricultural marketing boards; and the cultivated ginseng program. Prior to DATCP, she worked with GEA Farm Technologies, a leading dairy/milking and food processing equipment manufacturer in Illinois, in product manager roles, including new product development and strategic market implementation. She was born and raised on a 500-acre registered Holstein, hog, and crop operation in Lake Mills, and in recent years moved back to be near the family farm.

Abigail Latimer, Ph.D., MSW, LCSW, APHSW-C, is a post-doctoral scholar for the Research and Interventions for Cardiovascular Health (RICH) Program with the University of Kentucky College of Nursing. She has over ten years of clinical experience, with the majority in hospice and palliative care. Dr. Latimer also has a specialization in counseling persons with addiction who were receiving medication-assisted treatment in recovery. She holds an Advanced Certified Hospice and Palliative Social Work credential and is an active member of the Social Work Hospice and Palliative Care Network, the Association for Gerontology Education in Social Work, and the Gerontology Society of America. Dr. Latimer's research interests are in geriatric palliative care, heart failure, and moral distress.

Dr. Jill Levenson is a Professor of Social Work at Barry University in Miami, FL.  She is a SAMHSA-trained trauma-informed care instructor, and has published 5 books and over 100 articles, many about adverse childhood experiences and trauma-informed care. Her research has been funded by the National Institutes of Justice, the CDC, and the National Sexual Violence Resource Center. Dr. Levenson is a licensed clinical social worker providing assessment & treatment in South Florida. In 2020 she was NASW-FL Miami-Dade Social Worker of the Year. She has provided TIC trainings in more than 20 states, Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, and Hong Kong.

Ms. Melinda Marasch is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker & a social work/mental health consultant. Melinda has dedicated more than 20 years to her passion in helping others. Melinda specializes in clinical training, supervision & development of programs for therapists & non-therapist direct care workers. She is a member of the international Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT) & has completed a Traumatic Stress Studies course in Trauma Informed Care. As a result, her expertise includes training & consulting across the U.S. on Motivational Interviewing & Trauma Informed Care, as well as on self-care, mental health issues, de-escalation, change management, & more. Melinda has experience in school, residential & outpatient care, within criminal justice (many armed services veterans), healthcare (e.g. HIV/AIDS medical case managers, patient navigators), public (e.g. department of human services case workers), & community-based organizations.

Debra Minsky-Kelly, LCSW, is a professor of social work at Carthage College. She earned her B.A. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a Master in Social Work from Loyola University Chicago. Her experience as a clinical social worker includes serving as a director with Rogers Behavioral Health in Kenosha as well as working in areas of domestic violence, child welfare and homeless healthcare. Prof. Kelly's ongoing research and clinical interests include the effects of trauma across the lifespan, development of trauma-informed organizations, and the impact of secondary traumatic stress on professionals.

Jennifer Parker, MSSW, LCSW, ACSW: Jennifer's introduction to intimate partner abuse in a battered women's shelter practicum led her to seek her Master's degree in Social Work at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. Graduate practicum experiences included working with domestic abuse victims, abusers, and child witnesses and an alcohol/drug treatment program. Jennifer developed a group curriculum in 1991 for survivors. She has provided expert witness testimony and evaluations for intimate partner abuse. Her book, Coercive Relationships: Find the Answers You Seek addresses what coercive control is, why it is so prevalent in intimate relationships and throughout our society, and what survivors can do to move forward with their healing. Jennifer's website at www.jennifercparkermssw.com focuses on information regarding abuse. She also publishes a blog addressing intimate abuse issues through her website. She has received state and local awards for her work with survivors.

Barbara Perkins, MSW, LCSW has a sole private practice in Madison, WI. She has practiced in a variety of healthcare settings during her career. She has been practicing telehealth since 2014 and is a Board Certified Tele-behavioral Health Professional, Level II through the Tele-behavioral Health Institute.

Jeanne Wagner, MSW, LCSW, ACSW joined the staff at the Helen Bader School of Social Welfare in May 2005 as the Director of Social Work Field Education Programs. She received her MSW from Jane Addams College of Social Work, Chicago, IL and her BSW from Morehead State University, Morehead, KY. She is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Clinical Professor with extensive clinical, management, administrative, and educational experience. She has worked in a variety of social service settings prior to her appointment with UWM, which include child welfare, adoption (domestic and international), mental health, intellectual disabilities, geriatrics, and private practice. She currently teaches courses in social work, develops and presents continuing education programs covering a variety of topics related to social work practice. She is a Trainer for the Training for Adoption Competency (TAC) curriculum through the Center for Adoption Support and Education (CASE) and UWM's Co-Director for TAC. She has served in the role of Ombuds for UWM since 2007 and has 10 years of experience in Quality Assurance.
